Linda Rees Tapestry WeaverLinda Rees --- Artist Statement:
I have been weaving since 1965 and specializing in tapestry since the mid 1970s.  Working at my loom for a few hours is a daily endeavor that has sustained me throughout my adult life.

My tapestries range in subject matter from bold, geometric color studies to gestural or stylized figurative imagery. What unifies the work is the similarity in treatment of color.  I work with a very limited number of colors in each composition.  They are chosen before the type of content is determined.  I do a yarn wrapping of possible groupings and occasionally a brief sample weaving. Then it is my intuitive feeling about how the selected combination should be used that sets the style and stirs an idea into being.  At that point, I begin drawing and plotting out the specifics of the design.

My goal at present is to loosen up the boundaries of both types of imagery so that I am not necessarily thinking in one style or the other, thereby letting aspects of each mingle.
